Former Premier Tom Rideout endorses PC Leadership Candidate Ches Crosbie
St. John’s, NL (November 17, 2017) – Today, former Premier Tom Rideout has issued the following statement endorsing Ches Crosbie in his bid for the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador.
“I am pleased to endorse Ches Crosbie to be the next leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador.” said Rideout
“I am confident that Ches has the experience, work-ethic, and vision needed to rebuild our economy, restore confidence in our public institutions, and revitalize our Progressive Conservative Party.”
Rideout was elected as a Member of the House of Assembly from 1975-1991, and again from 1999-2008. He served as a senior-ranking cabinet minister in the governments of Premiers Brian Peckford and Danny Williams. Rideout was elected as leader of the PC Party in 1989 and served as the province’s fourth Premier.
“As leader, I am confident Ches will be able to lead a vigorous opposition which can hold the current Liberal government to account, while preparing the PC Party with new policies and a strong team to form government in 2019.” said Rideout
Rideout joins former Premier Tom Marshall who also endorsed Crosbie last week.
The next leader of the PC Party will be selected during their party convention scheduled for April 27-29, 2018.
